Respect in Sport

RESPECT IN SPORT PROGRAM

THE RESPECT IN SPORT ONLINE PARENT PROGRAM IS NOW MANDATORY PRIOR TO REGISTERING YOUR CHILDREN IN RINGETTE

The MHRA Executive feels that Respect In Sport is a valuable and important program to help educate all MHRA members about the inherent value and importance of mutual respect between parents, players, coaches, and referees.  The Respect In Sport (RIS) - Parent Program is an on-line training course for parents that reinforcing a parents role in a child or youth’s activities, encouraging positive sport behaviours, and providing insight into the various roles other individuals (such as coaches and officials) play.

This program has widely used in other sports associations within Canada and internationally, at all tiers of sport, and in national, provincial, and community sports associations.  The idea is that through a little education, common sources of negative experiences in sport can be avoided. It is well known that the most common causes of players, coaches, and referees leaving a sport are negative interactions with other parties.  RiS helps give parents, coaches, and other volunteers the tools to deal with situations in a positive manner, and helps ensure a fun and safe experience for all.The on-line, self-guided course has been designed with flexibility in mind.  Once started the course can be stopped, saved and resumed at your convenience.

RIS-Parent Program certification is issued and valid for 3 years once the online course is completed.

Each Ringette family in MHRA will be required to have one parent complete the course. It does not matter how many children play ringette within a family, only one parent will have to complete the course prior to registering their children for Ringette.  If you have already taken the course  and the certificate has not expired, simply enter your Respect in Sport # in the field in the Registration Session.

RIS-Parent Program certification is fully transferable to any other sports program (i.e. Medicine Hat Minor Hockey, Medicine Hat  Soccer etc.) using the same RIS certification program.
